Renowned developer Devolver Digital is always at the front of the queue when it comes to bringing us a good old giggle, and today is no exception — despite the fact that the laughs have an undertone of worry to them this time.
The studio has today announced that it is hosting a showcase on 7th August. "Yay," you might think, "we're finally going to hear more about The Plucky Squire". But this isn't the kind of showcase that you want your most anticipated games to show up at, this is 'Devolver Delayed', a showcase dedicated to the titles that are "courageously moving into 2024" — oh no.
As the YouTube caption for the above stream so eloquently puts it, "The future's future is here today." Simple, right? Devolver Delayed will kick off on 7th August from 4pm BST / 5pm CEST / 8AM PST, with the livestream covering everything that we are not getting on Switch this year.
The publisher behind last year's hits Cult of the Lamb and Return to Monkey Island have a couple of games lined up for Switch this year that we are particularly looking forward to including the aforementioned The Plucky Squire, Gunbrella, Pepper Grinder and more.
It sounds weird to think it, but let's hope that we don't see our favourite games at this showcase...

I’m sort of ok if Plucky Squire or Gunbrella get delayed to next year. I want them both really badly, but next year looks barren (for me) whereas this year does not. In fact, this year is crowded in the fall. As always, I’d rather have a great game have the time it needs rather than rushed out the door for sales.
But then again, it’s ok if they finally give timelines for release for anything 2023 too.
Doing an entire showcase to announce multiple delayed games is peak modern gaming industry. 😅
Them delaying products so that the quality is assured but giving us an actual update on them like this feels like it should be something that is commended for their transparency and dedication to quality. I’m a Sonic fan, so I know how bad pushing games out gets.

Jokes aside tho yeah if this is serious and all about hey we’re delaying games I do hope plucky squire and gunbrella aren’t there. Then again this could be their quirky little way of showing off these games they know aren’t releasing this year but want a way to get more eyes on it.
@somnambulance Totally agree. And especially for multi-system players, there's a LOT coming out in the months ahead. Love to see Plucky and Gunbrella hit some early 2024 lull in new releases. PLUS the whole concept of Devolver Delayed is really funny.
For everyone worried about Gunbrella, Devolver confirmed on Twitter that it'll be in the presentation but is still slated for 2023
If the games are being delayed for getting better quality AND workers don't have to do crunch is not that bad. I highly prefer waiting for a finished product than waiting for a patch that allows me to play said product.
My kid and I were just talking about Plucky Squire on Tuesday. Both of us are really looking forward to playing it but neither of us could remember the name. 😂 In my kid's defense they did eventually say "something w/ a squire" which was a lot closer than I got.
OK by us if it gets delayed, was probably waiting for it to wind up on PS+ Ess anyway. Not sure if it's PS4, PS5 or both but it's on my PS wish list.

I wish this becomes a trend. I pretty much stopped buying games day one (safe for a few select developers like nintendo) because of how bad most games are on release. Day one has the quality of an untested pre-alpha way too often.
Moving development to Switch2, very clever!!
Devolvers one of the few companies in the business of making new fresh games. Instead of rehashing the same crap over and over like every one else.

This is pretty funny actually. I get that they want to make sure of better quality and whatnot for anything delayed, but in a way they are also basically saying "**** it, we will just steal precious seconds of your life by showcasing games you won't play until next year, ha ha!" and then they leave, lol.
At least it’s not the “devolver cancelled” showcase, right?
The Plucky Squire, Anger Foot, Pepper Grinder and Stick It to the Stickman will be released in 2024.
Wizard with a Gun and The Talos Principle 2 will be released in 2023.
