I'm assuming they will be showing new hardware to 3rd party representatives then.

Tokyo Game Show doesn't happen at the right time for Nintendo to promote any of their games anyways. It's kind of like how Nintendo usually only turns up with an Indie World Showcase during Gamescom, and pretty much nothing 1st-party at The Game Awards.

You have to have some kind of threshold for the indie programmers. Otherwise anyone there will pitch their game. It's a roguelite soulslike metroidvania inspired by earthbound BTW.

Nintendo is probably there secretly giving dev kits of their upcoming console to third parties perhaps. I could see why they don't want to reveal it yet. They're probably going to save the news for an October Direct then show off the console later in the coming months and launching it in the new year similar to how they launch the Nintendo Switch.

Didn't they also attend TGS in 2005 with a prototype of the Wii Remote in a demo of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes?

I'm expecting something similar, only this time behind the scenes.

Are people forgetting Nintendo usually has a Direct in September? Usually mid-September, but I’m sure a direct is somehow connected to being behind closed doors at TGS (won’t stop the leakers though tee hee)

@Selim actually I'd say they'll be showing it to third parties for future games rather than doing a public announcement

Someone's uncle has to be able to sneak in. There are a lot of uncles. My guess is they are wanting to bring more games to the Switch.

@MrCookieCrisps Kind of doubt there will be a September Direct this year. Not a lot of point in it when between the Pokemon DLC, Pikmin, Detective Pikachu, Mario RPG, SMB Wonder, and WarioWare they have a pretty solid release schedule for the rest of the year. I'd say it's a lot more likely they do a November or December one.

@Lizuka Maybe, but last November ‘Direct’ was an Indie World and years during the Switch’s lifecycle, they were exclusively for specific games (like Smash Bros. or Xenoblade.)

The September Direct is usually for the first half/Q1 of the next year, so maybe Luigi Mansion: Dark Moon or the Princess Peach game is coming out early next year.

Could also have another shadow drop of a legacy game or an addition to Nintendo Switch Online (new games on existing platforms, DS, Gamecube, or really anything as Sega Genesis games are a separate addition.)

And just because they announced the games already won’t stop them from showing more (or have a 5-10 minute game showcase during it.)

@Dragnoran Excellent...then everything is proceeding as planned.

@Lizuka They did September 2017 and September 2019 general Directs despite the known upcoming lineups for the rest of those years being huge. Also the only September 1st party release is the physical version of Pikmin 1+2 (digital version released in June) which is unusual so they'll probably shadow drop another GCN game on the eshop in a September Direct.

That said, I think Switch momentum is too high for a Switch 2 reveal this year so the Direct would likely only cover the current Switch.
