I was thinking exactly the same thing.

I don't trust any reviewer that uses such well worn and inane phrases like "grinning from ear to ear".

I'm POSITIVE SERIOUS with my opinion about Everybody 1-2-Switch.
No sarcastic, I really have interest with Everybody 1-2-Switch.

For those of us that are more skeptical, maybe we can try it out during a five day free trial.

That Gamespew review leads me to believe they didn't actually play it very much (or even bother to try it at all?) and just assumed a certain level of quality because of Nintendo, and "all these Nintendo party minigame things are the same".

"even the ‘worst’ games in the collection are so silly that you’ll be grinning from ear to ear" sounds like something you can apply to Mario Party, Warioware or even the original 1 2 Switch. But not to the new game. Some of the games amount to nothing more than "guess a number", "higher or lower", "memorise this sequence", with extremely barebones presentation. Most of them are just "do this one physical movement when the game tells you to", like a QTE with motion controls... but you can't even get the button wrong.

Sure many Mario Party / Wario Ware games are very simple but the humour in the presentation is better relayed, there are far more minigames, and you switch between them at a faster pace, or have stuff to actually "do" inbetween.

That said, a couple of the games are creative and things I haven't seen before. Trying to match a colour on screen by taking pictures of things in your room with the camera on your phone is an interesting idea. Hiding the joycon and trying to have someone find it by it periodically vibrating is fairly novel too... after that, I struggle to think of anything interesting.

I can see how a game like this can still be fun for some people when challenging their friends or trying to beat their own score. I'm fine with a reviewer having a different opinion than me. But that quote from that review objectively doesn't seem to be describing this game, more what you'd imagine a generic Nintendo minigame collection would be.

If it's a showcase for the fantastic Joycons, 3D-rumble, IR capabilities and motion controls and such, I'm positive. Joycons are awesome.

Nintendo rarely use the full capacity of the joycons. I remember "guess the amount of balls in the box" in original 1-2-Switch to be really impressive.

@RedBlueSpot Sadly the first 12 Switch game was a far better showcase for what unique stuff the joycons can do. This game can be played with your phone (and infact some games actually require you use your phone rather than the joycons). Only the barest of "is this device moving or still" gyro censor is used for the games, not real motion controls. Similarly only "make the device vibrate" rather than "HD rumble to make cool subtle effects". Infact, the Nintendo Switch itself is completely unecessary. You could easily and quickly reprogram this whole thing to be a phone game where the output of the TV just appears on everyone's screen instead, and it would work just as well, without the faff, and would probably be a much cheaper download.

Again though, I'm not trying to take away from anyone who enjoys the game. There is still fun to be had for the right person in the right circumstances, even if it is painfully basic.

In my many decades on this planet, I've yet to be invited to a party where anybody is playing any video games anyway. Oh well.

@LavaTwilight @TryToBeHopeful : While rare, some Nintendo games have wound up in the proverbial bargain bin.

I found two brand-new copies of The Legendary Starfy back in the day for only AU$5 each. Unbelievably dirt-cheap for a game that looked as good as any other first-party title.

And while I paid close to full price for WarioWare: DIY at launch (AU$60), I found it a couple of weeks later for a measly AU$20!

And I've seen Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival go for as little as AU$5.

I refuse to believe that Gamespew and Nintendoboxershorts are legitimate sites and not just a bushel of squirrels running around on the keyboards in a clickbait sweatshop.

Found multiple times game like Metroid Other M and Federation Force.
Or Zelda Triforce Heroes.
Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival and StarFox Zero as well.
Or Sushi Striker
Ecc...

There's potential here, especially as it supports more players than most party games, but let's be honest here... how many of us often gather in large enough groups to make the best of something like this?

@TryToBeHopeful That is a fair point. I was thinking of it as an eshop discount rather than a physical, "bargain bin" purchase and using the term loosely. Then again, will it go for less than that 30% discount which is sometimes still not worth it? I don't know how much it is, tbf, I haven't checked.

I am once again commenting to inform you all that you’re missing out on a good game. Just give it a shot, and you’ll enjoy it. It’s a decent party game for a cheap price by Nintendo standards.

I was so hopeful for this game when I saw you could use your phone. I thought it was like a Nintendo version of Jackbox Party. It’s not. 😩

That’s quite an inconsistent spread of reviews… might be a sign that it’s not gonna land with everyone, but for some it may be right up their street.

I will get it eventually but there is way too much coming down the pipe line.

@Ryu_Niiyama how I am feeling. Honestly just waiting for next system so switch first party games finally drop to like $20. There are a few first party games I want but will not pay more than $20-$30 for.

@PuppyToucher I don’t think I will wait that long but I am going to focus on my eshop wishlists this year and another 1TB card. And I might get a boxed release or two but my eshop wishlist is nearly maxed out so I gotta parse that down. Plus my mom decided she wanted a switch for xmas so I am buying another system this year lol.

I would genuinely laugh if this game was nominated for "Best Multiplayer." It might get "Best Family" though, considering how much of a family game this actually is (I am still very insulted by how many singleplayer Nintendo games are nominated in this category).
