Topic: The NintendoLife VGM Tournament: Best Credits Theme (Round Three)

I also love Brawl's theme but I stuck with my nomination and went for Xenoblade. The Deadly Premonition theme is good too but I still prefer New Leaf.

Hate that Brawl theme so much! It really rubs me up the wrong way. Ocarina is the best in this bracket, I think, though I do like Deadly Premonition too. Skyrim is good, but sounds a bit too much like a generic movie soundtrack.

The numbers are thinning and we’re getting down to the heavy hitters now. Deadly Premonition moves on with a score of 3-2, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at 4-1, Ocarina of Time at 5-0, and Xenoblade Chronicles at 4-1. Here is a link to the bracket

That Mega Man 3 theme has grown on me over the course of this tournament. The SMB theme is obviously great and iconic (despite not technically being the title theme) but I went for MM3, and then Crypt of the Necrodancer, Lifelight, and Xenoblade.

I’ve voted for Mega Man 3 so many times, but I have to go for Mario.

I dislike Burning Rangers deeply. I think I voted for it earlier but I can’t remember why. 🤔 Anyway, despite me hating Necrodancer, I voted for it.

Now the third one is cruel. Despite nominating Lifelight in the first place, I had to once again go against it for my new favourite, Deadly Premonition.

I haven’t voted for either of these, as I don’t exceptionally like either of them, but I went for OoT for today. 😉

P.S. If anybody else votes for Mario, I’ll be super happy! Please!

Devil's advocate with the rules here. first levels can count for title screens. The nonimated Splattack can come to mind. It's sounds like an epic party is about to throwdown, It can work as a intro cinematic. I say this because Smb doesn't scream title screen or intro. The song sounds like you're in the start/middle of a video game level. (Okay we're ready to start the game, Okay now you're in the game.) Take ba listen you'll notice. For that reason, MM3 takes the vote

Mega Man 3 blew by Crypt of the Necrodancer 5-0 on its way to the final while Ocarina of Time narrowly edged out Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 3-2 to claim the other spot.

Uh... @ThePirateCaptain, normally on ties you flip a coin. I’ve been organizing a similar tournament for indie games and the finals just ended with a tie. Do you have special rules on this?

So funny thing, like a month or so ago, a person I follow on Twitter was following some sort of "post a favorite video game song a day" challenge...thing. And the first one was to name your favorite title screen music, and he went with Megaman 3. I replied that that was good, but as a counterpoint, I posted the OOT title theme.

You could count up the total votes each one has gotten over the entire contest I guess? Tiebreakers are hard for stuff like this but since it’s really just for fun I don’t put a lot of weight into the “winner” if you get what I mean.

Neither of these are among my absolute favourites from this tournament but they're both very good songs. I went with Ocarina but I'd be happy for either to win. I agree about Alien 3 and Deadly Premonition, I hadn't heard those before either and they're both great.

So I listened... as much as I’m mad at MM3 for taking SMB out, but OoT took Ultimate out and Ultimate took Deadly Premonition, which might actually be better than SMB... I went for MM3 as it’s an incredible theme.

Also, what will the next tournament be?

Can’t believe Mega Man 3 might actually lose. I mean, I like OoT a lot. It’s another iconic tune, and a far better game than Mega Man 3 - but Capcom absolutely nailed it sonically with MM3. Still, subjective opinions, blah blah.

My question is, how did OoT beat the original Zelda? My honest opinion...

But congratulations to OoT - it’s the better game, so I can understand why people’s emotions might have pushed them that way. And it’s a good tune.
