The ratings for Survivor today might not be anything like what they were back in the early 2000s, but that hasn't stopped publisher Microids from getting in on Survivor: Castaway Island — a game based on the once-popular TV show that will be coming to Switch on 3rd October.
Developed by Magic Pockets, Castaway Survivor takes on the same format as the show. You will play as one of 12 contestants, competing in a series of wilderness challenges and befriending campmates to maintain popularity and avoid being voted off. We haven't seen all that much of the game itself so far, but we're imagining that it will consist of a series of minigame-style challenges interjected by some text-based social drama.
While there is not much to see, Microids has shared the following information and limited screenshots about what we can expect from Survivor: Castaway Island:
In Survivor: Castaway Island, be prepared to experience the ultimate test of survival! As you navigate the treacherous landscape, you'll need to rely on your survival instinct and strategy to remain in the competition. Every decision you make will be crucial to your fate. Are you cunning, strategic, and ruthless enough to outwit, outplay and outlast your opponents?
During your adventure, look for resources and form alliances with other castaways to survive, but remember that trust is hard to come by in the game of Survivor. Choose your allies wisely and watch your back for betrayals. In team or individual challenges, push yourself to the limit to avoid being voted off the island.
One wrong move, and the adventure ends. Your survival is at stake, and only the strongest will make it to the end. Do you have what it takes to be the last one standing and become the sole Survivor?
We understand that more information about the game is to come soon, so keep an eye out over the coming months before its release later this year.
What do you make of this one so far? Let us know in the comments.

Truly in the shovelware stage now
@Manxman64 Agreed, but still probably better than 90% of games on eShop.
Hopefully Magic Pockets can better optimise this one. Miraculous was rough with how much it dropped frames.
I love Survivor (The US Version anyways). A good game adaptation of the show in game format seems like a no-brainer hit, mixing what is essentially Fall Guys and social deduction games. Too bad this doesn’t look like that. This game technically came out last year, but based on the French version of the show, Koh Lanta and reviews were less than swell.
For those who may want a truer Survivor experience, definitely check out Outlaster, a well done Roblox server that takes the politics and game theory into account that former Survivor players have played in the past.
Survivor has a lot of potential in the form of a party game, but I can't see it being anything more than a cynical cash grab.
And speaking of TV show adaptations, there's also a Spanish-exclusive Masterchef game released for the Switch/PS4/PS5, complete with physical releases. It was released back in May this year.
The audio is in Spanish only, but it does contain English support (no other languages though) and support for up to two players. It doesn't look great, with a lot of loading times, but diehard fans may consider a look-see seeing as there is no wider release in the pipeline.
I'll probably buy this game on PS5 for the trophies.
There was a Survivor game on the PC decades ago.
As someone that watched Survivor religiously with the family when I was a kid, what a weird call to make a game now and not during the Wii era when reality show games were rampant.
Microids is definitely the better of the slew of casual game developers, but they also published Fort Boyard which was a POS.
The only thing surprising about this is that it took this long. A Survivor game in the 2000s based around mini-games would have done well.
@Manxman64 the good news about being in the shovelware stage is that you won that round of the console wars. Shovelware developers don't bother with the losers. No numbers.
OH BOY, THIS IS GOING TO BE A WINNER!!!!
do not need a game for this if i want to watch castaways i can watch episodes of gilligan island
@johnedwin this entire article flew completely over your head.
